International University Sports Federation (FISU)

The International University Sports Federation (FISU) was officially formed in 1949 and ever since it attributes, supervises and organises worldwide competitions among the students in the age range of 17-28 years old. FISU has 163 members from National University Sports Federations united into 5 Continental University Sports Federations. The Universiade is an international sporting and cultural festival which is staged every two years (odd-numbered years) in summers and in winters in a different city. The World University Championships (WUC) on separate sports are organised in even-numbered years.

International University Sports Federation is the only international sports federation that brings together more than 50 sports and provides permanent liaison between the academic world and the world of sports by organising conferences, forums and seminars during the sport events. International University Sports Federation promotes sports in educational institutions, adhering to the principles of fair play, focusing on amateur sports and volunteering.

 

The Executive Committee of the 27th Summer Universiade Kazan 2013

The Executive Committee of the 27th Summer Universiade 2013 in Kazan was established on August 14th, 2009. The founders are the Ministry of Sports, Tourism and Youth Policy of the Russian Federation, Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Tatarstan, municipal unit of the city of Kazan and Russian Student Sports Union. The Executive Committee works closely with the International University Sports Federation (FISU), International Sports Federations (IFs) and coordinates the preparation and staging of the 2013 Summer Universiade in Kazan.

 

International Educational Center of the International University Sports Federation (FISU IEC)

FISU International Educational Center was established on the basis of the Volga Region State Academy of Physical Culture, Sport and Tourism as a result of signing Memorandum of Understanding between the International University Sports Federation (FISU), the Ministry of Sport, Tourism and Youth Policy of the Russian Federation, the Republic of Tatarstan and the Russian Students Sports Union.

The key missions of FISU IEC are: promotion of international student sport movement; ensuring long term sustainable heritage of the World Universiades; promotion of humanistic values and principles of the Olympic sports; providing a broad range of exclusive practice-oriented educational services; personnel training for the Russian and world university sports.
