Being more active at the beginning of the final at the Universiade helped sambo wrestler Atkunov

The winner of the Universiade in Kazan in the sambo competitions, Russian Aymergen Atkunov told reporters that one of the components of his success was being more active at the start of the showdown.

Atkunov on Monday won Universiade gold in the up to 57 kilograms weight category, after he defeated Mongolia's representative Maral-erdene Chimeddorj in the final tournament.

“It was not easy to cope with the pressure, the atmosphere here is crazy. Before the final I put myself a good grade, but in the decisive battle – “four-minus”. Final match – it’s a different meeting, different mood, after the preliminary fights you cool down, you start to think. What was the deciding factor? At first I was more active, and it helped me,” Atkunov told reporters. He noted that the carpet, on which he had to fight sambo wrestlers in Kazan, is not ideal. “I would not say that the carpet is very slippery, but there are problems. You are afraid to make any sudden faking movement. All athletes competed carefully, trying not to make any unnecessary movements,” said Atkunov.
