Sambo. Preview of competition day

On July 16, sambo competitions will finish at the 27th World University Summer Games in Kazan.

 

On Tuesday, in Tatneft Arena three medal events will take place in the women's -56, -68 and +80 kg. And three medal events in the men's -62, -82 and +100 kg.

In the women’s -56 kg, the Belarusian athlete and European champion, Tatyana Arkhipova will be fighting for the Universiade medal.

In the women’s -68 kg, the winner of the World Cup stages, the Russian Marina Mokhnatkina is considered to be one of the favourites.

In the women’s +80 kg, the champion of the World sambo championships, the Russian Anastasia Kovyazina, will also be among the competitors for a medal.

In the men’s -62 kg, will perform the two-time world sambo champion, the Russian Ilya Khlybov.

In the -82 kg, fighting for a medal will be the winner of the Students Sambo World Cup, Sergey Gonchuk (UKR).

In the heaviest weight category, +100 kg, the favourite is the European Champion of 2013 in Sport and Combat Sambo, Razmik Tonoyan (UKR).

The first bout will begin at 10:00 a.m.

On July 15, the athletes competed in three medal events in women’s -52, -64 and -80 kg in sambo competitions at the 27th Summer Universiade in Kazan. There also were three medal events in the men's -57, -74 and -100 kg.

In the women’s -52 kg, Anna Kharitonova (RUS), who has defeated Inna Cherniak (UKR) in the final match, took gold. Bronze medallists of the 27th World University Summer Games were Gulbadam Babamuratova (TKM) and Chen Fangfang (CHN).

In the women’s -64 kg, Alice Hester Schlesinger (ISR) claimed the title. The Belarusian Tatsiana Tokts earned silver. Bronze medalists were Akane Ikuta (JPN) and Gulnar Hayatbayeva (TKM).

In the women's -80 kg weight category, the strongest was Shori Hamada (JPN). Teresa Dzhurova (BUL) gained silver. Bronze medals went to Irina Alexeyeva (RUS) and Nyamtuya Nyamkhuu (MGL).

In the men’s -57 kg, gold went to Aymergen Atkunov (RUS). Maral-erdene Chimeddorj (MGL) won silver award of the 27th Summer Universiade. The bronze medals went to the Ukrainian Mykhailo Ilytchuk and the Azerbaijani Islam Gasumov.

In the men's -74 kg, the gold medal was won by Uali Kurzhev (RUS). The athlete from Japan Kota Eto placed second. Nusratishokh Imomov (TJK) and Alejandro Clara (ARG) became bronze medallists of the Summer Universiade 2013.

The men's -100 kg, the Belarusian athlete Mikolay Matsko grabbed the title. In the final, he defeated Peter Paltchik (ISR). Dmitry Eliseyev (RUS) and Mikhail Cherkasov (UKR) won bronze medals .

Sambo competitions will last up to July 16 at the Tatneft Arena.
