Eliseev: The strongest sambo wrestlers of Europe participated in Universiade

President of the Russian and European Sambo Federation Sergey Eliseev claimed to R-Sport agency that European teams in sambo brought to the Universiade in Kazan their strongest athletes.

In sambo competitions at the Universiade 2013 18 medal events were awarded. Tournament took place fro 14 to 16 of July.

"There are no soft drinks, and there are no people who came here to get out for a walk. All took their best athletes to the Universiade. France performed well, I would like to single out also Bulgaria, Georgia, Moldavia, Greece. Italians are also progressing. All are improving and want to succeed. I am glad for European teams, and is very satisfied with their performances," Eliseev stated to R-Sport. "21 teams from 45 participating ones won awards. This means that sambo is developing and spreading quickly all over the world. Sambo wrestlers from all continents fought for medals in Kazan, and it is great," Eliseev added. Russian sambo wrestlers in 18 weight categories won 16 medals (12 gold, 1 silver, and 3 bronze awards). "There is nothing perfect happening in life. Of course, we can perform our best. But if we win 18 from 18 gold medals, sambo should be closed. And now we have rivalry, we are struggling through for each medal. Each final was so dynamic and hard that athletes gave all their strength and skills," Eliseev remarked.
