Shlyapnikov: Russian volleyball team could hold out in Universiade final

The Russian volleyball players managed to find strength for the Universiade final match with the Poland’s team, despite tiredness after the matches, held before, Sergey Shlyapnikov, the Russian team’s head coach said.

In the final, Russia defeated Poland with a score of 3-0.

“To play against Poland is always difficult. Volleyball is sport number one in this country. The Poland’s team plays well in each tournament. And this team reached the Universiade final. Both teams showed a good play. To expect the final match to be exciting was vainly. All were physically tired, and the match was difficult. I thank my guys that they held out and performed the task, set by their coach,” Shlyapnikov said to the journalist of R-Sport.

Shlyapnikov underlined a high level of the volleyball tournament at Universiade. “Competitions are organised on a very high level. Volleyball events were serious, the medals were deserved. There is no question of undervaluation. The Poland’s team, as well as our team, has the players for the first team’s reserve,  the Russian volleyball team’s coach said.
