The volleyball tournament at the 27th Summer Universiade in Kazan ended on July 16.

Russia's national volleyball team won gold at the Universiade, which became the 150th gold medal won by Russia’s team at the World University Summer Games. In the final, the team of Sergey Shlyapnikov defeated Polish team with the score of 3-0 (25:22, 25:19, 25:19). That was the third victory in a row at the Universiades for the volleyball players. They also won in Belgrade in 2009 and in Shenzhen in 2011.
Japan's team became the bronze medallist of the tournament, having beaten the team of Ukraine with the score of 3-0. Maksim Zhigalov, a diagonal player of Russia’s national team and Belogorie Club, was named the most valuable player of the tournament.

Earlier, the women’s tournament winner got known. Gold medals of the Universiade were won by the women’s volleyball team of Russia that defeated Brazil in the final game with the score of 3-2 (25:27, 25:21, 25:21, 16:25, 15:10). That was the eighth victory of the women’s national team of Russia/Soviet Union at the Universiades. For the last time, Russian women’s team won the World University Games in 1997, when they defeated the United States in the final match.
Third place in the women’s tournament was taken by the team of Thailand that outplayed Poland with the score of 3-1.
