FISU Flag transferred to host city of next Universiade

The International University Sports Federation (FISU) Flag has been solemnly transferred to the representatives of the Organising Committee of the next Summer Universiade, which will be held in the South Korean city of Gwangju in 2015.

The official Closing Ceremony of the Kazan Universiade, during which the transfer of the FISU Flag took place, is currently being held in the Kazan Arena Stadium in Tatarstan's capital. Representatives of the Organising Committee of the Kazan Universiade have transferred the FISU Flag to the Korean delegation composed of Co-Chairmen of the Organising Committee of the next Summer Universiade Mayor of Gwangju Kang Un-Tae, Chong Wei Hwa and President of the Olympic Committee of South Korea Jung Haeng Kim. In his address to the people of Russia, Kang Un-Tae said: "Dear residents of Kazan, I would like to express my profound respect and congratulations to all of you on the successful delivery of the Summer Universiade 2013 in Kazan under the slogan 'U are the World'. We have witnessed the most successful and beautiful Universiade in the world. As the Mayor of Gwangju, I will make every effort to ensure the same success as was achieved at the Universiade in Kazan," said Kang Un-Tae after the transfer of the FISU Flag.

Gwangju is South Korea's sixth largest city with a population of 1.4 million people. The host city of the next Summer Universiade is famous as the home city of the Korea's first spaceperson Yi So-Yeon.
