"We staged quite well the EWF European Weightlifting Championships as a test event, and then 15 medal events were contested by 250 athletes as part of the Summer Universiade tournament. The IWF Junior World Championships will prove that we will able to further host weightlifting tournaments of any level. Three athletes will represent Russia at the competition. It demonstrates that weightlifting is activelt developing in our region," said Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Rafis Burganov.

IWF President Tamás Aján particularly mentioned how well Kazan has prepared to host the world championships.

"I am very glad that Kazan will host the World Weightlifting Championships. I'm grateful to Kazan and the Ministry of Sport for arranging the tournament. I could give another name to your city. It is the capital of Russian sports. You have a very clean and beautiful city with lots of sports facilities. We hold a major tournament for the third time in Kazan. In 2011 we had the European Championships, in 2013 - the Universiade, which was a huge success, and now, in 2014, we have the World Championships. Everything is organised very well, and I'm sure that this tournament will be held at a high standard," said Aján.

Director of the Summer Sports Development Department Grigory Kabelsky expressed confidence that the World Championships in Kazan will serve as a stepping stone for young athletes.

"I would like to thank Tamás Aján for entrusting us with the right to host such a high-profile tournament in Kazan. Weightlifting is a special sport for Russia. It gave us many champions to whom Russian young people look up as role models. Today's participants are the future of weightlifting. I hope they will become world-famous stars someday. I would like to say thank you both to the organisers and the Minister of Sports of the Republic of Tatarstan for developing this sport in Kazan," Kabelsky said.

Russia's Weightlifting Federation President Sergey Syrtsov unveiled the Russian national team's lineup. He stressed that three of the team members are from Tatarstan.

"The women's team roster includes Svetlana Ershova, Irina Baymulkina, Diana Akhmetova, Ksenia Maximova, Ani Sargsyan, Maria Beloborodova, Larisa Kobeleva. The men's junior team carries Timur Maligov, Sergey Petrov, Victor Getts, Artem Okulov, Jamal Kudaev, Aleksey Kosov, Georgy Kuptsov, Antony Savchuk."

"Thank you, Mr. Aján, for giving us the right to host the championships, but without the support that we had from the Ministry of Sports of the Republic of Tatarstan the competition would not be possible. I am grateful to Rafis Bourganov's team that has been working long and hard in the build-up to the championships. Thanks to these people, sports in Kazan reached the highest possible level. Of the 15 people in the national team three are from Tatarstan. It shows how developed the sports is in the republic," concluded Syrtsov.

IWF Director General Attila Adamfi mentioned the high level of the event's management and added that he has no doubt about the successful staging of the tournament in Kazan.
