World Fencing Championships: Women's epee preliminary rounds wrap up on Day 3

The line-up of the women's epee table of 64 was decided today at the World Fencing Championships in Kazan.

The Russian national team will be represented in this event by Tatiana GUDKOVA and Lyubov SHUTOVA. SHUTOVA emerged victorious in five bouts and booked a spot in the round of 64, however GUDKOVA failed to meet the same goal. After two losses in the pool GUDKOVA advanced to the playoff where she suffered a defeat by Corinna LAWRENCE (GBR), 8-15.

Three Russian fencers will compete in the round of 64. SHUTOVA is going to fence Eunsook CHOI (KOR), Violetta KOLOBOVA will face Auriane MALLO (FRA) and Yana ZVEREVA will take on Rie OHASHI (JAP).

Women's epee medals will be contested on July 20.

Julia BELJAJEVA (EST), who is the current world epee champion, will look to defend her crown. BELJAJEVA's opponent in the round of 64 will be Jamilya YUNUSBAYEVA (KAZ).
