12th WUC Rowing: Still full of surprises

The B Finals began in the afternoon on Day 2 of the 12th World University Rowing Championship. It was a chance for the outsiders who did not make it to the A Finals to claw back higher positions. The Ukrainian rowers Jan SAVON and Oleksandr SKOROPLIAS won the men’s Coxless Pair B final and took the 7th place. They outpaced the Norwegian pair Ola KROSNESS and Eirik HENRIKSEN by almost one third of the distance.

The crews of Poland, Russia, Norway, Estonia, Finland and the USA get places 7-12 respectively, according to the results of women's Double Sculls B Finals. The athletes from the Czech Republic, Australia, Poland and Sweden win places 7-10 in men’s Double Sculls B Finals.

The Irish crew won the 7th place in the men’s Coxless Four B Final. The crew from the Czech Republic and Ukraine occupy the 8th and the 9th places respectively.

On the whole, the “repechage day” eliminated the outsiders. Day 3 of the championship will decide the winners and medallists in the A Finals. The teams of Russia, Poland, Germany, Italy and the Netherlands have the biggest number of finalists. However, the right to compete in the finals does not guarantee a medal, so the last day of the championship is still going to be full of surprises.
