27th Summer Universiade in Kazan,

July 6-17 2013

Best belt wrestlers to be selected for 2013 Summer Universiade

The All-Russian University Koresh and Freestyle Belt Wrestling Competitions are underway as we speak at the Ak Bars Wrestling Palace, Kazan.

This tournament serves as a qualification round for the World University Games. 78 athletes from the Samara Region, Krasnodar Territory, Tyumen Region and other parts of the country gathered in Kazan to compete for the berth in the Summer Universiade Koresh tournament. Wrestlers from 13 regions of Russia will seek a spot on the national team.

Attending the competitions is FISU CTI Chair Ibrahim Cicioglu. His task is to evaluate the work of the Field of Play (FoP) team and check whether the venue is ready to play host to the Summer Universiade wrestling events. The Ak Bars Wrestling Palace already hosted a test event, the University Sambo World Cup, at the end of 2012. Back then the FISU CTI Chairs gave the thumbs up to the event's organisers.

Inclusion of Koresh in the Games' sports programme was an important step in the national sports' development. As we reported earlier, the Summer Universiade belt wrestling tournament, which will feature classical style and freestyle, will be held on 6-9 July 2013 and include 19 medal events.

April 5 saw a press conference with the participation of Moris Yusupov, President of the All-Russian Belt Wrestling Federation; Dzhaudat Minnakhmetov, President of the National  Wrestling Tatarcha Koresh Federation; Khalil Shaikhutdinov, Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs, Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Tatarstan; and Ibrahim Cicioglu, FISU CTI Chair.

Admission is free for all comers. Anyone can come and support wrestlers. Tickets to the Summer Universiade belt wresling tournament are available for purchase at the venue.
