Winners of Koresh test event to get spot on Russian national team for 2013 Summer Universiade

Day 1 of the All-Russian University Koresh and Freestyle Belt Wrestling Competitions concluded at the Ak Bars Wrestling Palace on April 5. For athletes from 13 regions of Russia this tournament is not just another belt wrestling tournament but a chance to earn a berth on the national team for this summer's World University Games.

Here is a quick look at today’s standings. Elvir Akhatov, the Candidate Master of Sports of the Institute of Economics, Management and Law (Kazan), won gold in the 60kg Koresh event. Almaz Minnekhuzin, the first-class wrestler from Kazan State Agrarian University, ended as runner-up, with the bronze being shared by Lenar Khusnutdinov, the Candidate Master of Sports of the Tchaikovsky State Institute of Physical Culture, and Nafis Minnebaev, the Master of Sports of Kazan Cooperative Institute.

The 70kg Koresh gold was snatched by Ildar Giniyatullin, the Master of Sports of Kazan (Volga Region) Federal University. Ruslan Nurgaliev of Almetyevsk State Oil Institute finished second in the table behind him. Lenar Sadikov, the first-class wrestler of Kazan (Volga Region) Federal University, and Ramil Sinyakaev, the Candidate Master of Sports from Almetyevsk State Oil Institute, shared the third place. 

Ilnar Galiev, the Master of Sports of Kazan National Research Technological University, topped the 80kg Koresh podium, followed by Master of Sports Maksim Stepanov (Volga Region State Academy of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism). Master of Sports Rinat Gainetdinov of Kazan State Academy of Veterinary Medicine named after N.E.Bauman and Candidate Master of Sports Dim Khairullin (Bashkir State University) finished third in the standings.

Ilnur Murtazin, the Master of Sports from the TISBI University of Management, took gold in the 90kg category. Silver went to Master of Sports Rail Nurgaliev (Kazan State Agrarian University), while Candidate Masters of Sports, Ilnur Khuramshin of Almetyevsk State Oil Institute and Kayum Khaidarov of Volga Region State Academy of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism, climbed up into third spot on the podium. 

Master of Sports Sergey Pavlik (Ulyanovsk State Agricultural Academy named after P.A.Stolypin) had no equal in the 100kg category. Radif Akchurin, the Master of Sports from Sterlitamak Institute of Physical Culture, grabbed silver, with Master of Sports Zulfat Garifullin (Kazan State University of Architecture and Engineering) and Ainur Yusupov, a student of Bashkir State University, came third. 

The +100kg event saw Sergey Pavlik of Ulyanovsk State Agricultural Academy named after P.A.Stolypin outclass all his rivals and post an easy win. Master of Sports Radif Akchurin (Sterlitamak Institute of Physical Culture) clinched silver. Two first-class wrestlers, Nail Khamidullin of Bashkir State University and Ilfat Gimadiev of Kazan State Agrarian University, sealed the third place on the podium. 

Belt wrestlers will try strength against each other on April 6. Winners will be granted a berth in the 2013 Summer Universiade. 

Admission is free for all comers. Sports fans and belt wrestling enthusiasts are welcome to come and support athletes. Tickets to the Summer Universiade belt wrestling tournament are available for purchase at the venue.
