Belt wrestling test event wraps up in Kazan

The All-Russian University Koresh and Freestyle Belt Wrestling Competitions concluded today, April 6, in Kazan. Athletes from 13 regions of Russia gathered at the Ak Bars Wrestling Palace to battle it out on the mats.

Day 2 of the tournament brought together crowds of belt wrestling fans who came down to the venue to give their support to the athletes. The wrestlers competed in 6 weight categories and showcased impressive results. 

Sergey Chernov, the Master of Sports from Kazan, was the one who celebrated victory in the 62kg event. Silver went to Candidate Master of Sports Bulat Vafin (Nizhnekamsk). Two wrestlers of Kazan, first-class athlete Arthur Gilyazov and Candidate Master of Sports Ilnur Valiullin, shared the third place.

The 68kg gold medal was snatched by Aidar Nazmiev, Master of Sports from Kazan, with another Tatarstan wrestler, Bugulma's Master of Sports Ruslan Badykov, finishing as runner-up. First-class wrestler Artem Arzumanyan (Volgograd) and Master of Sports Ainur Gatiyatullin (Mamadysh) placed third in the standings. 

Zinnur Gaisin, the Master of Sports from Chelyabinsk, earned the 75kg gold, followed by first-class wrestler from Bashkortostan Vadim Zulkarnaev. Arthur Zulkarnaev, another first-class wrestler from Bashkiria, and Candidate Master of Sports from Kazan Arkady Detkov climbed up into third spot on the podium.

Master of Sports Zelikhman Mudaev (Vladimir) topped the 82kg podium, with silver medal being grabbed by Master of Sports Rishat Mubarakzyanov (Naberezhnye Chelny). Two athletes from Bashkiria, first-class wrestler Aigiz Zainetdinov and Master of Sports Nail Mukhametyanov,, came third. 

The top podium spot in the 90kg event went to Dinar Shafigullin, the Master of Sports from Kukmor. Master of Sports Kayum Khaidarov (Kazan) finished second in the table behind him. Two other Masters of Sports, Vyacheslav Rudakov of Samara and Nikolay Elizarov of Vladimir, sealed the third place.

Khachim Dokshukin, the Master of Sports from the Kabardino-Balkar Republic, had no equal in the 100kg category, with Master of Sports Rustam Islamov (Bashkiria) ending up second best. Ilya Safin, the Candidate Master of Sports from Naberezhnye Chelny, took bronze. 

The +100kg event saw Radif Akchurin, the Master of Sports from Bashkortostan, claim gold, with first-class wrestler Nail Khamidullin (Kazan) and Master of Sports Azret Zhemchurazov (Kabardino-Balkar Republic) clinching silver and bronze respectively. 

The All-Russian University Koresh and Freestyle Belt Wrestling Competitions are the second in a series of test events in the year 2013. In the run-up to the Games, Kazan is expected to host around 20 test competitions, among them the Spring Swallows FINA Diving Grand Prix at the newly built Aquatics Palace, 9 national championships and a number of republican tournaments. As an optional sport, Koresh will make a debut appearance at the 2013 Summer Universiade.
