Russian synchronised swimmers highly commend overall management of Summer Universiade

On 3 July, in the Aquatics Palace, the teams competing in synchronised swimming began their training sessions ahead of the 27th Summer Universiade. As we reported earlier, it is the first time that synchronised swimming was first included in the competition programme of the World University Games.

Three-time Olympic champion, five-time European champion, Svetlana Romashina will perform a duet at the Kazan Universiade with Svetlana Kolisnichenko, three-time world champion in synchronised swimming. In addition, Romashina will perform a solo number to music composed by Anton Makarskii, 'Eternal Love". But these are not all the surprises which the Russian sychnro swimmers have up their sleeves for the judges, fans and rivals. The Russian team will compete in all types of programme: duet, solo, group and combined group performances.

After the exhausting training session, the stars of the Russian team shared their hopes for the forthcoming competitions. Svetlana Romashina admitted honestly that she is in a state of "quiet and pleasant shock", because she hasn't expected such a high level of event management. "Even the water in the pool's been warmed up for us, as they say. Kazan has all the conditions that athletes need to achieve their goals," Romashina stated.

When asked who she sees as her main rival, Kolisnichenko said: "The main goal at all competitions is to compete against yourself". Nevertheless, she admitted that the Japanese synchronised swimming team are serious rivals for the Russian team.

All the tickets to the synchronised swimming event have been sold out and the champions say that this is the most pleasant surprise at the moment. "Unfortunately our sport is not the most popular but the fact that the viewing areas will be full of spectators means a lot," remarked Romashina.

The Russian synchronised swimming team which will perform to the general public at the 27th Summer Universiade, apart from Romashina and Kolisichenko, also includes Aleksandra Patskevich, Anzhelika Timanina, Darya Korobova, Alla Shishkina, Aleksandra Zueva, Anisya Olkhova, Elena Prokofieva, Maria Shurochkina, Vlada Chigireva and Mikhaela Kalancha.
