Ukolova: Portuguese volleyball players surprise Russians with hit

Russian tandem Evgeniya Ukolova and Ekaterina Khomiakova had a couple of troubles because of trained hit of the Portuguese beach volleyball players Joana Resende and Tania Oliveira in the play-off match of the Universiade, said Evgeniya Ukolova to the sports news agency R-Sport.

The Russians players won 2-0 (21:16, 21:11), securing a place in the next round of playoffs. “We must understand that in beach volleyball we need to adapt to the opponent if he plays atypically. In the first game we were making overtures, trying to determine the weak points of the opponent, and then were playing more comfortable. We rarely play with such teams. They have their strengths: hit, for example. We had to get used to this pace of play, and then it was easier," Ukolova said to the sports news agency R-Sport.

According to her mate Ekaterina Khomiakova, the audience support helps the Russian tandem in Kazan. “We have the support of fans there. We are very pleased that people come to watch the play at such an early time. The stadium is almost full,” the volleyball player said.
