Diver Minibaev only blames himself for his third place at the Universiade

Russian Victor Minibaev, bronze medallist in diving at the Universiade, has said that his unsuccessful attempts were all because of his own personal mistakes.

In the final Minibaev scored 519.00 points, behind Chinese diver Huo Liang (531.25) and Jun Wu (520.40).

“I could have done better, some dives didn't work out,” Minibaev told R-Sport journalists. “Maybe fatigue is showing, I have been in many competitions this year, but that's no excuse. It's my own fault that it didn't work out. The thought arose that I might come fourth today, and so I just went and dived, but if the Mexican [German Sanchez] had dived like he knows how, I would have finished outside the medallists.”

The sportsman admitted that his most difficult dive with a coefficient of 4.3, which he has been honing this year and did not accomplish at the Universiade, he will not attempt at the World Championships, which start in one week's time in Barcelona: “I consulted my coach and we decided to leave it out, because it is complicated and difficult to execute psychologically. We will prepare it for next season.”

On Thursday, Minibaev is to compete in synchronised platform diving, paired with Artem Chesakov.
