Pole vaulter Savchenko said competing at Universaide was very Important for her

Russian Universiade pole vault champion Anastasia Savchenko told R-Sport agency that it was very important for her to compete at the Games in Kazan.

Savchenko managed to clear 4.60 metres. Martina Schultze of Germany placed second (4.40.)

“I am happy with the result, although it is not my best ever,” Savchenko told the R-Sport agency before the awards ceremony. “But I am glad that I achieved it in Kazan. Opponents are always worthy, no matter what their results are. You never know what to expect from them. I respect all of my rivals: they give me the strength to jump even higher,” she noted.

The Universiade in Kazan will continue through July 17.
