Russian women’s volleyball team advance to Universiade semi-final

The Russian women’s volleyball team made their way to the semi-finals of the Universiade, beating Chinese Taipei in the quarterfinals. The match ended with the score 3-0 (25:21, 25:17, 25:22) in favour of the team of Yuri Marichev.

The women from Chinese Taipei, despite the fact that they were significantly of shorter stature than the Russians, refused to give up without a fight. The guests played tough right from the start of each game (2-0, 3-3, 5-5). At some point, the Russians took the lead by three points, but the Asians clung to every ball – 14:14.

In the end, the host team gradually realized their advantage in class – 25:21. In the second period, the Russians rivals were able to provide decent resistance only in the first five minutes – 4:4. Then Marichev’s team started to steadily increase its lead – 25:17. In the third set, the Asians fought with all their strength and achieved a tie (11:11), but it was not enough.

Russian women sometimes had problems at the reception, but at the right moments, they made up for this in the blocking and attacking, which ultimately determined the outcome of the match. In the semi-finals, the Russians will play against the national team of Thailand, which defeated Team Canada 3-0.
