Sambo wrestler Bondareva said she wanted to show technical control of the battle at the Universiade

Kazan Universiade champion in sambo, Elena Bondareva, told reporters that because she is more experienced than all her opponents, in the tournament in Kazan she tried to show technical control of the battle throughout the competition.

Bondareva won gold in the up to 48 kilograms weight category of the sambo tournament at the Universiade in Kazan.

“I'm older than all my competitors, so I wanted to show a more technical fight. However, seeing that all the other countries are catching up to the level of Ukraine, Russia and Belarus, all the fights were quite tough. The level of the Universiade is very high, comparable to the World Cup,” Bondareva told reporters.

In the final, in the second minute of battle, the Russian woman defeated the Ukrainian Olena Cunytska by applying a painful hold. According to the Universiade champion, this was a result of home preparation. “Painful holds do not come automatically, it takes me quite a long time to develop them,” she explained.

The athlete noted that right from the start she was exclusively psyched up for the gold medal at the World University Games. “I always psyche myself up to the most superior results, because without the right attitude winning does not happen,” summed up Bondareva.
