On Sunday, Kusanova became the second in the sambo tournament at the Universiade in the weight category up to 72 kg, losing in the final to Japanese Rui Takahashi.

"Surely, I wanted to win. Always believe on the best, but how it was, it happened. I'm happy with a silver medal, especially at this level of competition. As Fedor Emelianenko (who took part in the medal ceremony) advised me, I need a little work on the standing position. Of course, I will follow his advice,” - Kusanova said to the reporter of R-Sport. The athlete said that in Kazan she had to fight through the pain of injures which she had received in the training camp and during the competitions. "At the training camp, which took place before the Universiade, I received a shoulder injury during the first training, and then did not exercise, and kept fit. And at yesterday training I injured the leg. I tried to work through the pain, but I could not do it a little bit. We will work,"  Kusanova concluded.
