Sautin, Salnikov, Kiseleva and Demina to host masterclasses for young Kazan athletes

A number of masterclasses for sport school trainees will be held in Kazan on July 19 as part of a series of events related to the World Fair Play Awards. The masterclasses will be hosted by famous Russian athletes: Vladimir Salnikov, Maria Kiseleva, Dmitry Sautin, Stanislav Pozdnyakov, Svetlana Demina, Margarita Mamun, and Yana Kudryavtseva. The events will be held at Kazan's major sports facilities: Aquatics Palace, Tennis Academy, Shooting Complex and Gymnastics Centre.

Fair Play Congress to be held in Kazan

On July 18-19 Kazan will play host to a series of events related to the World Fair Play Awards. The International Congress "Fair Play: Honour and Achievements in the Sports" will be held on July 18 and on July 19 the Pyramid Culture and Entertainment Complex will host the World Fair Play Awards.

World Fencing Championships set to get underway

The World Fencing Championships started today, July 15, in the Tennis Academy, Kazan. Fencers will compete using three types of weapons: foil, epee and sabre. The halls for preliminaries (a direct elimination system, as at the Olympic Games, is applied at the competition) and finals are equipped with 9 pistes mounted on 40-50 cm platforms and enhanced with special lighting. Light panels that go on when a fencer hits an opponent are installed at the foot of the platform. This should provide a special entertainment for spectators. Four digital panels measuring 2.5x3.7m are also placed in the halls to display the bouts’ results and big TV screens are mounted on walls to show instant replays of the fencing highlights.

Athletes continue arriving in Kazan for World Fencing Championships

As early as tomorrow, July 15, the Tennis Academy will host the grand opening of the World Fencing Championships. The major transportation hub through which Kazan is welcoming athletes and team officials is the Kazan International Airport. Athletes continue arriving as we speak. Sunday and Monday are the busiest days for the OC's transportation team: up to 300 people arrived yesterday in Kazan and today the airport will welcome 200 more athletes and members of official delegations.

343 volunteers to support World Fencing Championships in Kazan

More than three hundred volunteers will lend a helping hand at the World Fencing Championships in Kazan. 343 boys and girls will do voluntary work in such functional areas as Accommodation, Arrivals and Departures, Broadcasting, Communications, Culture and Ceremonies, Event Services, Medical Services, Doping Control, Press Operations, Protocol, Info Desks, Sports Programme, Transportation, Attachés and others. Trainees of the Republican Fencing Children and Youth Sports School of the Olympic Reserve will work as field of play assistants during the event.

Fencers from 102 countries to come to Kazan for World Fencing Championships

Training sessions began for athletes who arrived in Kazan for the World Fencing Championships to be held in the Tennis Academy between July 15 and 23. It is already known that fencers from 102 nations will compete in the tournament. Representatives of 54 countries, among them Brazil, Guatemala, Sri Lanka, Cuba, Slovenia, Morocco, Chile, Georgia, Uzbekistan, Thailand, Croatia, New Zealand, etc., have already arrived in Kazan. They are gearing up for the Championships in the gym halls of Volga Region State Academy of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism. As for the Tennis Academy, last preparations are underway here to get the venue ready for the world's top fencers.

Kazan volunteers successfully complete their work in Brazil

Alia Khisamova and Polina Fomenko - two volunteers from Russia who were lucky enough to work at the FIFA World Cup in Brazil - shared their experiences with the staff of the Executive Directorate for Sports Projects. For more than two weeks the girls have been working in the Brazilian city of Cuiaba whose Arena Pantanal hosted the group stage of the football championship.

Summer Universiade gave a 10.8-billion ruble boost to Kazan's economy

June 6 marked the one-year anniversary since the sports capital of Russia, Kazan, hosted one of the major international sporting events - 27th World University Summer Games. The Universiade was hailed a success and drew global attention to the host city, the republic and the host nation at large. The socioeconomic impact that the Games had on the development of Kazan was the main topic on the agenda of the weekly briefing in the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Tatarstan. It was attended by Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Rafis Burganov, Director General of the Executive Directorate for Sports Projects Azat Kadyrov and PwC Director Mikhail Nosov.

Directorate for Sports Projects to collaborate with Ronald McDonald House

Today, July 3, representatives of the Executive Directorate for Sports Projects led by its Director General, Azat Kadyrov, visited the Ronald McDonald House in Kazan. The Ronald McDonald House is a real 'home away from home' for families whose children undergo long-term treatment at the Children's Republican Clinical Hospital of Tatarstan's Ministry of Health. The project aims to provide parents with accommodation in the territory of the hospital, so that children are not separated from their loved ones during their therapy. This project is able to address a range of psychological and social problems of children who undergo continuous treatment in hospitals. On August 28, 2012 the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) launched construction of the first Russian House in Kazan, and on July 10, 2013 it officially opened doors to its first lodgers.
