Kazan hosts Russian Judo Championships

Yest again the capital of Tatarstan is getting ready to host a major judo competition. After successfully staging the 2011 Russian Judo Championships and 27th Summer Universiade 2013, Kazan is preparing to welcome the Russian Judo U18 Championships. The tournament will take place at the Ak Bars Wrestling Palace between February 12 and 15 and be dedicated to the 70th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. Over 1,000 judokas and officials from 70 regions of the Russian Federation will come to Kazan for the event.

Vladimir Leonov grants state decorations to Directorate staff

On December 26, Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports of the Republic of Tatarstan Vladimir Leonov met with staff members of the Executive Directorate for Sports Projects and handed them commemorative medals of the Russian Federation celebrating the success of the 27th Summer Universiade 2013 in Kazan. Shortly before the medal presentation ceremony, the Minister, who served as the head of the Directorate in the build-up to and during the Universiade, addressed the audience with a short speech.

U are the World documentary wins FICTS Festival award

The International FICTS Festival awards ceremony took place in Milan (ITA) on December 8. The Universiade documentary took a trophy in the Olympic Values category, beating out two other Russian documentaries: 'Flame that Warms Our Hearts' about the Sochi 2014 Olympic Torch Relay and 'Pair Number One. More Than Love' about the success story of Olympic figure skating champions Volosozhar/Trankov.

International Sport Movies & TV Festival may be held in Kazan

A documentary about the 2013 Summer Universiade in Kazan, 'U are the World', is nominated for the main prize of the Sport Movies & TV 2014 – 32nd International FICTS Festival that is held these days, December 3-8, in Milan (ITA). Screening of the film took place the night before and results of the Festival will be announced during the closing ceremony tomorrow.

WSI Kazan 2019 concept presented at General Assembly in St. Petersburg

The concept of the Kazan 2019 WorldSkills Competition, which is expected to provide the basis for the bid book, was presented during the World Skills Russia Agency for the Development of Professional Communities and Labour Force General Assembly in St. Petersburg between November 27 and 29. Deputy Director General of the Executive Directorate for Sports Projects, Farid Abdulganiev, delivered a report on the work done in Tatarstan in this direction. The General Assembly participants welcomed Kazan's initiative to host the 2019 event and gathered signatures in support of this initiative.

Directorate for Sports Projects awarded for perfect running of protocol events

The Executive Directorate for Sports Projects was granted an award at the 3rd FEPS International Forum, an event recognising achievements in protocol services, image building and behavioral etiquette. The Directorate's Protocol Department was announced as this year's winner in the High Standard of Protocol Event Management category for excellent organisation of official events during the 27th Summer Universiade in Kazan. The trophy was handed to Head of the Protocol Department, Ilmira Tryaeva. The success of Universiade-time protocol service resulted from a joint work of the Directorate and Interdepartmental Working Group on Preparation, Accreditation and Organisation of Interaction Between Federal, Regional and Municipal Authorities and Games Protocol Service.

GTO visual identity design contest launched

The Ministry of Sport of the Russian Federation and Executive Directorate for Sports Projects announced an open call for entries for the best visual identity design contest for the Ready for Labour and Defence health and fitness programme. The contest kicks off on November 20 and will run for a month, until December 20. The deadline for entries is December 8. The goal of the contest is to create a visual look of the GTO complex which reflects cultural values of a healthy lifestyle and benefits of physical activity for Russian people. The visual look must be associated with such notions as 'physical fitness', 'strength', 'healthy lifestyle', 'drive for victory', 'development and progress', 'homeland', and 'success'. The prize fund amounts to 1 million rubles. In case several winners are selected, the prize money will be distributed equally amongst them.

Kazan 2013 volunteer programme experience presented in Moscow

Experience of implementing volunteer programmes at major international sporting events was discussed during last week's volunteer management seminar in Moscow. The event brought together representatives of the host cities for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia. The Kazan delegation was represented by Deputy Minister of Education of the Republic of Tatarstan, Larisa Sulima, Director General of the Executive Directorate for Sports Projects, Azat Kadyrov, and Deputy Director General of the Executive Directorate for Sports Projects, Alexander Karpov.

IAAF inspection team wraps up its visit to Kazan

IAAF's first inspection visit in the build-up to the 2016 IAAF World Junior Championships concluded today in Kazan. Its main goal was to inspect the Central Stadium, the host venue for the athletic competition. "The most important thing for us at this stage is to check everything about the sports venue, its equipment, its preparation and further Class One Certification as required by the level of the competition since the junior championships are a major event in the IAAF calendar of events. We've already conducted a preliminary analysis and we don't see any obstacles; we plan to make maximum use of the Universiade infrastructure," said Secretary General of the All-Russian Athletics Federation Mikhail Butov.
