Kazan National Research Technological University is one of the oldest universities in Kazan. Its history dates back to 1890 when the Integrated Industrial and Technical College was founded.

Another milestone in the history of the university is the year 2010, when the university obtained the status of a National Research University and was renamed Kazan National Research Technological University (KNRTU). The same year the university entered the Association of Leading Russian Universities.

Today the university enrolls up to 27,000 students, 1,000 of them are international students from 50 countries of the world. The faculty and teaching staff amount to 1,788 people, including over 300 professors and 953 PhDs.

One of the priorities for KNRTU’s development is an integration in international scientific and educational space. The university enjoys efficient partnership relationships with leading international educational and scientific centres and is actively involved in various global programmes.
International scientific schools, conferences and workshops are held on an annual basis.

Kazan National Research Technological University University carries out a wide range of sports and health conscious activities. It hosts traditional inter-faculty tournaments where athletes compete in more than 15 sports. These competitions attract considerable interest from students and create a ground for the university’s squads to gear up for different types of competitions. Every year over 1,000 students take part in the health improvement programmes, including recreational camps and youth centres of the Black Sea region. The university boasts a well-developed sports infrastructure: Miras Indoor Sports Complex, Miras Stadium, Zelyoniy Bor (‘Green Pine Forest’) Sports and Health Camp, a sanatorium-preventorium, as well as four training camps with halls and courts for doing physical culture.

The university has over 30 sports clubs with their total membership reaching 2,500 people. New sports clubs in various sports such as martial arts, women’s football, cheerleading, weightlifting are also being established. The university’s squads participated in 26 out of 30 sports of the Inter-University Spartakiade.

Student organisations participate and win the majority of events and contests held ahead of the 2013 Summer Universiade, such as the Volunteer of the Year Awards, Faces of the Universiade Contest and All-Russian Cheerleading Festival.
