On February 17th, 2011 Kazan State University of Architecture and Engineering signed a cooperation agreement with the Executive Directorate of the 27th Summer Universiade 2013 in Kazan and received the official status of ‘HEI of the 2013 Summer Universiade’.

The history of Kazan State University of Architecture and Engineering dates back to May 23rd, 1930 when a decree for the establishment of Kazan Institute of Public Construction was issued. During the course of its existence the university has grown from an institute to a university.

More than 7,000 students study today at the university. The faculty and teaching staff amount to over 650 people, including 29 members of the Academy of Sciences and corresponding members, 70 doctors of sciences and professors, 350 PhDs and associate professors.

Kazan State University of Architecture and Engineering actively cooperates with universities, institutes and scientific centres of Italy, Scotland, Sweden, etc., takes an active part in international contests, conferences, seminars and implements joint educational programmes and projects. The Italian Centre for Education and Culture of the Republic of Tatarstan operates at the university. In 2012 Kazan State University of Architecture and Engineering and the University of East London (UEL) signed a partnership agreement and carried out the validation procedure (European system of quality assessment in higher education), following which a Dual Bachelor's Degree programme (a KSUAE degree and a UEL degree) was introduced at the university.

The main goal of Kazan State University of Architecture and Engineering is to promote a healthier way of life and to encourage students and faculty and teaching staff to play grassroots sports. The university is traditionally among medal winners at university competitions both in the team and individual rankings. The Tezuche Multifunctional Sports Complex, one of Kazan 2013 venues, was commissioned and handed over to Kazan State University of Architecture and Engineering in May 2010.

The KSUAE Volunteer Centre was founded at the university to train student volunteers for the 27th Summer Universiade. The volunteers are actively involved in the events and activities held ahead of the Games, including the Team 2013 project, 2013 Polyglot Foreign Language Contest, Faces of the Universiade Competition, FISU inspection visits, All-Russian Cheerleading Championships, test events.
