On September 22, 2012 Siberian Federal University (SibFU) signed a cooperation agreement with the Executive Directorate of the 27th Summer Universiade Kazan 2013 and received the official status of ‘HEI of the 2013 Summer Universiade’.

Siberian Federal University was founded in Krasnoyarsk in 2006 when four top universities of the city – Krasnoyarsk State University, Krasnoyarsk State Academy for Architecture and Civil Construction, Krasnoyarsk State Technical University and State University of Non-Ferrous Metals and Gold – merged together to form one university. Krasnoyarsk State Trade and Economic Institute joined SibFU in 2012.

Today the university boasts a qualified faculty of 3,300 teachers and researchers and enrolls up to 40,000 students.

The university has partners with similar excellent research and teaching traditions across the globe. Over 130 universities and organisations from 30 countries entered into cooperation agreement with SibFU, thus enabling students and teachers of the university to take part in internships and exchange programmes. There are four international laboratories and five international centres at SibFU.

The university focuses a lot of attention on the development of physical culture and university sports which are seen as the basis for preserving and strengthening health, improving performance capability and creativeness of students, teachers and other staff members. The university won the Higher Education Institution of a Healthy Lifestyle Open All-Russian Competition. It also topped the 1st and 2nd All-Russian University Winter Games and finished as a runner-up at the All-Russian University Summer Games.

Student volunteer movement has recently begun in Siberian Federal University and is now gaining momentum. Volunteers of the university assist with delivering projects in various areas, including sports.
