On 27 November 2012, Volgograd State Agricultural University (VolGAU) signed a cooperation agreement with the Executive Directorate of the 27th Summer Universiade 2013 in Kazan and received the official status of ‘HEI of the 2013 Summer Universiade’.

VolGAU's history began in 1944 with the opening of the Stalingrad Agricultural Institute in the town of Uryupinsk. It was granted the university status in 2011.

Today the university has about 11,000 students, and over 600 teachers are involved in the training process, including honoured workers across particular branches of national economy, professors, academicians and full members of the Russian Academy of Agricultural Sciences.

The university successfully cooperates with international foundations and organisations, provides educational services to foreign citizens, and implements a number of international projects including the project for the development of academic mobility. The International Charter of Agricultural Universities was adopted on the university’s initiative.

Volgograd State Agricultural University opened the volunteer centre to recruit and train its students for the 27th Summer Universiade.

Among top priorities of the university’s educational initiatives are raising awareness of healthy living and promotion of grassroots sports. Between 2009 and 2012, the university has been heading the list of top higher educational institutions of the Volgograd Region in terms of grassroots sport management.
