On 22 November 2012, the Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) signed a cooperation agreement with the Executive Directorate of the 27th Summer Universiade 2013 in Kazan and received the official status of ‘HEI of the 2013 Summer Universiade’.

FEFU is the largest university in the Far East with the most state-of-the-art infrastructure and campus. It is located on Russky Island.

The university currently has over 42,500 students. The faculty is composed of more than 3,300 teaching and research staff.

FEFU works closely with the world's leading academic research centres, implements educational programmes jointly with its partners, takes part in academic mobility projects, holds international conferences and seminars, and serves as the central venue for holding conferences and exhibitions in the Far East.

The university's sports history features outstanding individual and team victories in 30 sports.

FEFU has made a significant contribution to the promotion of the 27th Summer Universiade. The university opened the volunteer centre to recruit and train its students for Kazan 2013.

Ivan Shtyl. Merited Master of Sport, 2010 world champion, Olympic bronze winner (London 2012), six-time canoeing world champion, World Cup winner and medallist, European champion.

Elena Voynova. Track and field athlete, Merited Master of Sport, 4х400m relay European champion.

Vitaly Obotin. Merited Master of Sport, two-time world deaf swimming champion, six-time winner and four-time medallist of the Russian Deaf Championship, six-time record holder of Russia, repeat winner of international tournaments, Russia's best swimmer (2011).
