Ural State University of Physical Culture was established in Chelyabinsk in 1970 as a branch of Omsk State Institute of Physical Culture which in five years turned into an independent institute. In 1995 the institute was awarded the status of an academy and in 2005 it became a university.

Today, total enrollment at the university is over 5,000 students. Its faculty includes over 350 researchers and teachers (215 of them have academic degrees and 42 are doctors of sciences).

The university’s volunteers enthusiastically promote the ideas of the 27th Summer Universiade in the Chelyabinsk Region. They actively support international, national and city events held in the city of Chelyabinsk.
