On November 3rd, 2011 Almetyevsk State Oil Institute signed a cooperation agreement with the Executive Directorate of the 27th Summer Universiade 2013 in Kazan and received the official status of ‘HEI of the 2013 Summer Universiade’.

The correspondence faculty of the Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas was opened in 1956 to be later reformed into the branch. The institute was founded in July 1992 and was named Almetyevsk State Oil Institute in 2003.

The institute currently enrolls over 6,000 students and postgraduate students. The faculty and teaching staff include over 350 highly qualified teachers, the majority of which have doctoral and PhD degrees.

Researchers and students of Almetyevsk State Oil Institute participate in contests and conferences held not only in Russia, but abroad as well.

The institute actively works to promote a healthier way of life and to spread the sporting values among the student body, postgraduate students and staff. The Marathon of Health programme is well underway. 11 sports clubs operate at the Burevestnik Sports Club.

The institute took active part in the Lesson of the Universiade Republican Contest. The Gaudeamus Camp project was awarded second place in the Best Kazan 2013-focused Out-of-school Activity category. Students of the institute also triumphed at the Faces of the Universiade All-Russian Contest in May 2012.

The Ishanych-Hope Volunteer Centre was opened at Almetyevsk State Oil Institute and currently runs four volunteer organisations: Club of the Angel, Happy Childhood, Senior Citizens and The Not Indifferent.

Master of Sport in Kettlebell Lifting, gold medallist at the 2006 World Junior Championship (Latvia), bronze medallist at the 2008 World Junior Championship (Germany), silver medallist at the 2008 World Championship (Italy), bronze medallist at the 2009 World Championship (Ukraine), world champion in the 70kg category, champion of the Republic of Tatarstan (2006-2010).

Ivan Trofimov. Master of Sport in Swimming, gold medallist at the 2010 Volga Federal District Championship, gold medallist at the 2009-2010 Swimming Championship of the Republic of Tatarstan, silver medallist at the 10th Spartakiade of Oil and Gas Universities of Russia (2010), gold medallist at the 2nd Summer Youth Spartakiade of the Republic of Tatarstan (2010).
