On 16 September 2011, Mordovian State Pedagogical Institute named after M.E.Evsevyev signed a cooperation agreement with the Executive Directorate of the 27th Summer Universiade Kazan 2013 and received the official status of ‘HEI of the 2013 Summer Universiade’.

Mordovian State Pedagogical Institute was established in June 1962. In 1972 the institute was named after the well-known enlightener, ethnographer and linguist Makar E. Evsevyev.

More than 5,000 people study at the institute today. The faculty includes over 375 researchers and teaching staff (30 of them are professors, 32 are Doctors of Science).

The institute takes part in federal scientific projects and educational programmes and cooperates with universities of the US, Germany, Japan and other countries.

Based on the results of physical and sports activities in the year 2011, Mordovian State Pedagogical Institute named after M.E.Evsevyev was recognised as the Best Institute of Russia in terms of Organising Physical Training Activities for Students in the Academic Year 2010-2011. And in 2012 the institute was awarded the Higher Education Institution of a Healthy Lifestyle Award for promoting the values of healthy living among students through creativitity contests and social advertising.

The Right Direction volunteer team operates at the institute. Its volunteers assist with the delivery of various sporting events.

Valeriy Borchin. Race walker, Merited Master of Sports of Russia, triple national title holder (2006, 2008, 2009), gold medallist in the men’s 20km race walk at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, two-time 20km race walk world champion (2009, 2011).

Denis Nizhegorodov. Race walker. Merited Master of Sports of Russia, defending Olympic 50km race walk champion, double Olympic medallist (Athens 2004, Beijing 2008), world vice champion (2011).

Sergei Bakulin. Race walker, 50km race walk champion (2011), bronze medallist at the 2010 European Championships, champion of Russia (2011), gold medallist at the 25th Summer Universiade (Belgrade 2009).
