At this time more than 20,000 students – including students from abroad – are studying at the university. Its headcount includes more than 600 academic teaching employees: 187 professors, 308 associate professors, 355 PhDs, 121 doctors of sciences, 5 academicians, 4 corresponding members of the Russian Academy of Education.

Now the Sholokhov Moscow State University for the Humanities carries out direct bilateral cooperation under running contracts with higher educational institutions of 16 countries. The university also works on developing new forms of cooperation with international partners within the framework of the Bologna process. It is an active participant of the Seliger International Forum and founder of the Modern Art and Education International Competition.

The university has volleyball, basketball, football, hand-to-hand fighting, aerobics, swimming, tourism, and ski clubs; a spartakiade is held on an annual basis.
