On September 16th, 2011 the Ural Federal University named after the first President of Russia B.N. Yeltsin signed a cooperation agreement with the Executive Directorate of the 27th Summer Universiade 2013 in Kazan and received the official status of ‘HEI of the 2013 Summer Universiade’.

The Ural Federal University is the largest federal university of Russia which unites the fine traditions of two top Ural universities – Ural State University and Ural State Technical University.

The total number of students at the university exceeds 46,000. The faculty and teaching staff comprise 4,711 people (2,587 of them have PhDs and 573 are doctors of science).

The university enjoys cooperation with the world’s top universities, regularly hosts international conferences and seminars. The Ural Federal University is also involved in implementing a whole array of joint projects financed by state organisations and public funds of the European Union and the United States.

The university operates 19 sports facilities which host many high-profile competitions.

The Ural Federal University is the constant participant in inter-university meetings and educational projects held in the run-up to the 27th Summer Universiade. In 2011, on International Volunteer Day, the university signed a statute on establishment of the volunteer centre.
