On September 11th, 2011 Ulyanovsk State University signed a cooperation agreement with the Executive Directorate of the 27th Summer Universiade 2013 in Kazan and received the official status of ‘HEI of the 2013 Summer Universiade’.

Ulyanovsk State University is the youngest university of the city of Ulyanovsk. It dates back to 1988 when the Ulyanovsk Branch of the Lomonosov Moscow State University was founded. In 1995 it was transformed into Ulyanovsk State University.

Over 14,000 students study currently at the university. The professor and teaching staff include over 1,300 people (495 of them have scientific degrees and 128 are doctors of sciences).

Ulyanovsk State University closely cooperates with research centres, implements joint educational programmes, participates in mobility projects, and hosts international conferences and seminars. The university also runs several international centres.

The university actively promotes a healthy way of life and spreads sports values among students, graduate students and teaching staff. Ulyanovsk State University takes part in traditional relay races and organises regional University Games. It owns 9 state-of-the-art sports facilities: a swimming pool, a stadium, a sport and fitness complex, a training complex, a ski depot, etc.

A volunteer centre was founded at the university. Student volunteers go through training in Kazan as they take part in various events carried out in the build-up to the 27th Summer Universiade.

Yulia Lukina. Master of Sport International Class in Powerlifting, silver medallist at the 2006 European Powerlifting Championship, champion of Russia (2007), bronze medallist at the 2009 World Championship (Deli).

Sergey Zhukov. Master of Sport in Kickboxing, medal winner at the Russian Youth Championship (2007-2008), champion of the 2007 Youth Kickboxing World Cup.

Ekaterina Kutuzova. Silver medallist at the European Youth Weightlifting Championship (Sweden).

Ekaterina Skorodumova. Bronze medallist in the artistic gymnastics event at the 26th Summer Universiade (Shenzhen 2011). Read more
